Modular Liquefaction

By refrigerating natural gas to around -162 °C / -260 °F it becomes a liquid and is reduced to 1/600th of its gaseous state volume making it suitable for transportation and storage. During the cryogenic liquefaction process certain contaminants are removed; some to meet the required specification e.g. nitrogen and others that can be sold as high value products in their own right e.g. natural gas liquids and helium.

Until relatively recently liquefaction was only possible on a huge scale in baseload facilities but Chart has now developed its own proprietary liquefaction technology aimed at monetizing small and mid-scale gas fields. IPSMR® - Integrated Pre-cooled Single Mixed Refrigerant is an improved single mixed refrigerant process that offers performance and economic benefits versus alternative SMR processes in the small and mid-scale LNG space.
